Just Java 2 Book

do we need to use the book along with the assignments? it seems the book is great, but is not for us that are brand new to programming...any thoughts?

Did you notice the links associated with the assignments. I think you'll find basic helpful information in those links.

Hi Nath,

I used the book when I was still fairly new to the language, but I will admit that the book that really got me started in actually understanding stuff in the beginning was "Head First Java" by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates.

I learned more in 8 hours than I had in 8 weeks of a college course I was taking.

The Just Java 2 book I have is the 6th edition, some of the assignment page references don't exactly match up but the info can still be found. I also have the Headfirst Java book, which helped me get interested in the first place. It takes a "fun" approach to learning the language, which I appreciate, but if you're cranky and don't like goofy pictures, it's definatley not for you.
