Important JSF material to go through for Part I

Hi Mates

I am targetting to go for part 1 on 22 may. Currently I am going throuw Cade book. I have little idea of JSF, please suggest me which book and which chapters should I go throw before appearing in exam.

By the way, I have 7 year of experience with SCJP, SCWCD and SCBCD certification. Planning to give a short to architect exam before August.

Core JSF patterns is a good book(latest edition):

is a good read. Go for the initial chapters.

Since you have very limited time, I would recommend you to just go thru the advantages and disadvantages of JSF technology very well. MVC, JSF life cyle and one basic example of renders, event handlers and converters & validators. Focus on security and design patterns advantages and disadvantages and you will rock!

One advise, you might get drag and drop questions on security or patterns. Please take extra time and try to do it first time itself. In my case, I could not drop the objects on right rectangle, it wasn't staying after dropping and I wasted almost 3-4 minutes in figuring out that once we pull the object over rectangle, at a particular location, mouse pointer changes and that is when you want to drop the object there. By this time it was too late for me as I was running out of time so finished it very fast thinking that I will review the question at the end if I have time.

At the end I had 4 minutes and I wanted to review 3 questions. When I wanted to review the drag and drop question, it gave me warning that if proceed, my current options will be cleared completely so I did not review those 2 questions.

I did have a JSF question, but it was high level.

In my case-I had around 3 JSF questions. One of them was about the EL and has the syntax based question. I too got surprised as SCEA is a concept based exam and doesn't rely on syntax-but i got such a question in 2009.

You are right Ashutosh. After seeing your post, I just recollected my memory. I had one question which was related to syntaxes of expression launguages in JSP and JSF. It was combined with $ and #. I don't remember exactly but to answer that question, the person should have used EL extensively as it was combined with scope variables too.

Another question for me was related to advantages and disadvantages of JSF.

Surprisingly, I got 3 to 4 questions where a knowledge of syntax was required.

I think you and myself got the same set for SCEA5-part 1 - it seems
It was tough and yes there were two questions $ and # and they required a good understanding of EL.
