This week's book giveaway is in the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. We're giving away four copies of Refactoring for Software Design Smells: Managing Technical Debt and have Girish Suryanarayana, Ganesh Samarthyam & Tushar Sharma on-line! See this thread for details.
I am new here and would like to convey you that I have cleared my SCJP 6 exam with 95% marks recently. Feeling very good.
Before attempting the exam I have visited this forum once and felt very good and got some nice guidelines while roaming into various threads. So just wanted to say thanks to all those who indirectly helped.
The exam wasn't much tough. I have mainly read the "SCJP 6 study guide from Kathy and Bert" and "Head First Java". So make sure to have a lot of practice before you actually attempt the exam. Go for the online mock exams, they help a lot.

I have been trying the things here and there in Java since a long time. But I haven't been so eager to go for this certification. This time, I was kind of in a "I-Have-To-Do-This" mood.
I started my preparation some 3 months back. I had a first reading of Head First Java sometime back, which helped a lot. I started directly with the Kathy and Bert book which is specifically for SCJP 6. Believe me, thats the best book you can ever come across if you want to clear this exam. I read that book almost twice and it helped me getting the concepts in really cool manner.
Key things which I did :
1) Read the Kathy/Bert book with solid dedication and without break in between your preparation time. Don't let the link get broken.
2) Solved almost all the questions which are given at the end of each chapter. They really help. Don't skip them.
3) Appeared for so many Mock tests online as well as downloaded some setups, installed them and tried exams there. This includes TechFAQ, LearnKey setups.
