My strange question

Hi, yes I have a strange question. What is java used for? See, I was told java is not really used for desktop apps, and that people don't really use applets anymore. And I thought that JSP and SERVLETS do the web apps. So if they do the web apps, and java is not used for desktop apps really, then what is java used for then? please any advice greatly appreciated, as this is disturbing me as I am learning java right now. Thanks. Derek

Please write thread titles that describe the desired discussion or topic area rather than your characterization of the question itself. For example, a better title for this thread might be, "What is Java used for today?" or "Is Java still relevant for the desktop?", something relative to your inquiry.

I've seen this question asked many times, so you may have some luck searching for previous threads.

Always learning Java, currently using Eclipse on Fedora.

Sorry, I thought the question was so stupid that if I posted the title as that, no one would even look at the post. thanks.
