I have just started for SCEA Part I. I understand that UML, is important part of SCEA part II.
I am planning to have overview of UML for part I - Is it okay?
and in detail while part II.

thank you.

For part 1 I assume it's enough if you know UML sufficiently to understand diagrams (eg. of Design Patterns). There are no explicit questions on UML in test.

Hi Shiva,
I am also planning for Part1 ....so i would appreciate if you could refer me good books ?
Many recommend me "Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for Java EE Study Guide (2nd Edition)" is it good book?
and how about Whizlabs SCEA (Part I) Exam Simulator ?

thanks!

This book mentioned is good in the way it shows quite well (at least I hope so) the scope of the exam, and is very, very concise - which is good thing, if you know everything, and just want to refresh your knowledge, but it's difficult to learn from it, if you don't know something. In such case it's more like a reference, and you need to find some other materials (for most of the subjects you can find it's on-line). Therefore it does exactly what it promises - it guides you in your study

About whizlab, I've read here that it's not completely representative of what you will find on exam, but as I haven't taken one yet, I cannot say anything about this. Some impressions I have so far:
- it's much worse than their Java Programmer Simulator - I remember that big advantage of their SCJP Simulator were great explanations of each topic, with links for further study etc. I learned almost exclusively from their simulator, reading the answers and reaching for external sources in few cases that it was necessary. Forget about this in SCEA, explanations are very vague, and at best you will understand why did they select this choice over some other.
- now it works only on-line, and requires you to have good and stable connection all the time, otherwise it's unusable. My current Internet connection sometimes breaks, and with such fact their AJAX engine cannot cope at all (no refresh button etc.).

Anyhow, I think it's useful to do at least some tests, as it requires specific way of thinking (and alertness ), and it's better to get used to it doing some stupid errors on mock tests, than on actual exam.

Bear in mind that I haven't yet taken exam, those are my thoughts from preparation so far.

I am following articles & notes provided in Link section of SCEA & "Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for Java EE Study Guide (2nd Edition)".
Once I finish it, I would look for free mock tests. Whizlab might be helpful but I am not opting to pay, so won't be able to use paid version, but will try free version's available questions.

good luck.

Thanks Antoni & Shiva!

What dates are you targetting for Part 2 & 3 ?
I am planning to start now for Part 1 ....so what you think, will it be doable (SCEA - All parts) before 1st August?

I am SCJD too, so I understand that part 3 does not need preparation. (I believe, in part 3, candidate need to explain the design preference and justification to that, so if candidate does Part 2 with its own thought, can answer (write easily) in part 3).

So practically, we need to focus on Part 1 & Part 2.

I am planning to take part 1 in mid of June.

And believe, can pay same day online for Part 2, considering there could be delay for unexpected reasons, can download Part 2 in 2-3 days after taking Part 1. Considering 4-5 hours daily after office & full day on weekend, I hope to finish Part 2 in 3 weeks, which means something between July 10 to July 15. I may go through my design daily for a week & upload part 2 around 23rd & take part 3 on any first available slot after that.

Sounds good but I am worried too as having this certification means a lot to me and this is the only chance, as I won't be able to pay US$ 3000 for training, so can't afford time to re-take. HOPE for the best & good luck.
