Connection Exception when tring to connect to a remot host using visualvm

Hi,
I am trying to moniter a java application running on remote jvm .I have tried starting the jstatd server with an external RMI Registry on the remote machine and when i try to connect that remote host from my visualvm (local).IT gives me a cannot connect to hostname:port using jmx:rmi:///jndi/rmi://hostname:port/jmxrmi. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Perhaps the remote machine firewall blocks that port?
