Important - Oracle's stand on Resubmission after August 1

Hi,

I was a lot relieved when I learned from Javaranch that a resubmission(after August 1) for a failed assignment does not require mandatory courses.

This Javaranch Thread has a reply from Oracle Certification team which backs this assumption

Here is a reply I got from Oracle Certification team that contradicts the above assumption.

Now which one is right?

FYI

Hi Raj,

Here are the answers to your queries:
1. If customer downloads the assignment now from Ibt.prometric.com, from 1 Jun its going to be with Pearson vue, where should they submit the assignment?

After completing the Assignment they should complete the Essay with Pearson VUE and email the assignment file to developer-submit_US@oracle.com or architect-submit_US@oracle.com.

2. Can they take the Essay and assignment together instead of waiting for 4 to 6 weeks.

They have to complete the Essay soon after the assignment is done. We will not be able to send the assignment file for grading with out the Essay comments.

3. From 1 Aug we are going to include the o! ne mandatory training course to the certification, in case if customer hasn’t completed the assignment and essay, will they have to take the training to get certified

Yes, candidate will have to take the Mandatory training id they have not completed the assignment and essay before 01 Aug 2011.

4. In case if they fail the essay before 1 Aug, will they have to take the mandatory training?

Yes, candidate will have to take the Mandatory training if they fail the assignment before/after 01 Aug 2011
.

Regards,
OCP Team

In case if they fail the essay before 1 Aug? Are they talking about failing the assignment? How do you fail the essay? Do they refer to "not attending" (or ""missing") the essay before August?...

Look at the response from OCP team. It clearly says "assignment". I agree that the question is a bit deceiving in asking about "failing the essay" , but I did not phrase it, a person from Oracle support got these questions answered and forwarded it to me

You can't fail the essay exam and pass the assignment. There isn't a separate score per se for the essay. It is part of the score of part 2. This is why you don't have to redo the essay if you redo the assignment.

My opinion is that original the policy was that you could resubmit after August 1st and then Oracle realized there is a giant loophole and change their minds.

Well, loop whole to loosing money (because candidate won't need to attend the course)....? But they are creating situation (loop whole) to loose profit if approx. 50% less people take the exam.

I would wait eagerly next year to know, how many people attended SCEA in 2009 (Aug to Dec), 2010 (Aug to Dec), 2011 (Aug to Dec),

and later for 2012 (Aug to Dec).

Assuming they make money on the exam. And maybe they don't want a flood of subpar entries to grade in July with people trying to beat the deadline?

Quite possible.

But I have different assumption. Orcale might get lot of submissions, but what is after that, dead zone; as approx. 15 people in another thread shared inability to take exam if training is mandatory. There could be couple of people who could take it with training but none of such has responded yet.

Considering it is a false alarm and Oracle shares a loop after 31st July, but still loose credibility from associates like us. For organisation of Oracle size, I believe, credibility does matter. So Oracle would lead to dead zone or loose it's credibility form exam takers.

I think OCP team should publish this stuff in black and white somewhere.
If you call the Customer service of any thing in US and if the call is being answered by different folks-many a times we get contradicting responses.

In my case-i downloaded the part 2 assignment in May 2009 and everybody in this world says that one should upload the assignment within one year. I sent the email to Sun in 2009-2010 and get them in writing that assignment doesn't expire. Later i uploaded my assignment during Mar 2011.

I always saved that copy from Sun(now Oracle) so that if there is any issue-i can show that email to them.

I will say either Oracle publish guidelines clearly or candidates should save the email response from Oracle to protect their interests.

A very nice point Ashutosh. I have been doing this. Sometimes, I get right information from forums but still I write email to Oracle and get that in emails.
