Hi
I want to practice on web-services,
I'v never worked of read any book on web-services,
my core knowledge is on JAVA and web application development using servlets, JSP, Struts and JSF, AJAX & Javascript.
so my question is
can i directly start reading and practicing on Web-services using REST
or a knowledge of WSDL and SOAP is a prerequisite for it.

I would say that study of SOAP and WSDL would contaminate your thought processes and make it harder to appreciate the simplicity of the RESTful style.
Check out the REST references in the Ranch web services FAQ page.
Serious students will want to grab a copy of Fielding's dissertation in which he coins the REST acronym.
