No unsubscribe link on promotional/informational emails

Title says it all really. I can't fathom how in this day and age a site would send out these types of emails without an unsubscribe link attached. To me, it's borderline spam when this happens. Furthermore, I have to dig through the settings to find the proper option to stop them from being sent to me.

Anyone else in agreement here?

Thanks for the feedback, and as one who has been critical of other sites not adhering to an easy-to-complete unsubscribe, you have my agreement and apologies.
I'll raise a note to see if anyone is able to complete this work, and if no one is able to find the time (we're volunteer run) I'll pick it up ASAP.

When i get a thread watch email, it has an "unwatch" link at the bottom.

When I get an email about a weekly book promotion, I see

So when you say "no unsubscribe link on promotional/informational emails" I'm lost. Is there some other email? Is your email different from mine?

Also, maybe we can make this page more clear? Any ideas in that space?

Just a thought, probably a direct URL to unsubscribe the user from further notifications similar to the "Topic Unwatch" link? This would uncheck his preference for the "May JavaRanch send you occasional email notices ... ?" and later he can check that if he wants. But that would reduce only few clicks from doing it manually.

agreed, but as a community run by volunteers it will not happen unless one of us is able to pick it up.
While I believe that the process could be improved in terms of ease and friendliness, the current process satisfies the requirements of being able to choose to unsubscribe from emails. It may be that we are able to improve this while still being able to provide emails to members but again must stress that these code changes do not write themselves.

We also learned that adding theword unsubscibe flags us as spam by some filters. It isn't just a time problem.

But are we saying that there *IS* an unsubscribe link?

So the complaint is invalid.

I'm closing this thread. If one of the staff can find an email that is missing the unsubscribe stuff, they can reopen it.
