I don't think this is directly due to Log4j. Log4J normally wouldn't spawn threads. I think you'll need to dig deeper.

Don't ask me! Like I said, it requires some more digging. But log4j is essentially a linear, synchronous process. Unless you're using some sort of channel that queues and forwards log messages or something.
