Hello to everyone,
I would like to know if these material is still ok for OCJP exam or there are better for it:
- WhizlabsSCJP 6.0 Self Study Training
- Whizlabs SCJP 6.0 Exam Simulator
- SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Exam 310-065
- OCP Java SE 6 Programmer Practice Exams (Exam 310-065)
- A Programmer's Guide to Java SCJP Certification: A Comprehensive Primer (3rd Edition)
I dont know about the last one- But rest are all still valid. OCPJP is the new name of the SCJP exam.
I would suggest you to refer the book- SCJP guide by Kathy Seirra and Bert Bates and also the OCP Java SE 6 Programmer Practice Exams. Look at the ScjpFaq for more details.

I would also recommend the enthuware and Examlab simulators, they helped me a great deal in the last few month before I took my exam.
Devil is in the detail.

Nick,
All the "yes" answers you are getting presume you are taking the Java 6 version of the test. If that's not the case, speak up as the answer is considerably different.

Hello I have been studying for version 6 of the exam for quite a while now and see that there is a version 7. I see that with this version you have to pass an exam before you can do it. Is there any point changing to 7 or do you think it would be best to jsut finsish 6 and upgrade to 7 in the future if I feel the need to?

Without OCA 7 or any prior old versions of scjp don't think about OCJP 7.

Thanks, I am nearly finished K&B's book for scjp 6.
Do you think i should just do the ocpjp 6 exam over the OCA 7 Exam?
Is an upgrade exam from ocpjp 6 -> ocpjp 7 the same as the exam you would do if you did the OCA 7 then the OCPJP 7? Ie is upgrade OCPJP 7 the same as the full exam OCPJP 7?

OCPJP will definitely teach your anymore. The choices are really:
1) OCPJP 6
2) OCPJP 6 + Java 7 upgrade
3) OCAJP 7 + OCPJP 7
In the long run #3 will be the only option. At this time, I think #1 or #2 are better as they give you a SCJP level certification sooner. (If you look at my sig, you'll notice I went with #3. But that's because my primary goal wasn't too get certified.)

I graduated from my masters 1.5 years ago and have not worked since, I went travelling. Since I have never worked I will be looking for a graduate role. I think getting the ocjp 6 now would help, and help get me back in touch with programming. I have a big gap on my CV with me doing 'nothing' for the last 1.5 years which I believe looks bad. Thanks for the info, sounds like I will learn more by going with 1/2. ocpjp 6 will help me better with 7 if I wish to upgrade also.

A few things. The main one was actually JDBC being on the exam got my attention. It made the exam feel less theoretical to me which motivated me to do it. Which ruled out option 1. Since I needed to take two exams, I preferred to experience the "new style." But I've been a Java developer for 10 years and am not job hunting. So the fact that I don't get certified for months even if I pass is ok. (the OCPJP is in beta which makes for a large delay in scoring.)
I actually didn't learn that much since I've read the cert books before. It was more of an experience.
I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to
run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
