Cannot find org.springframework.util.assert

Hello dear forum,

I am new to spring and it has been quite a while since my last java program, so I am struggeling a bit while going through the nice book "expert spring mvc and web flow".

I am using eclipse helios and installed spring via the spring IDE plugin, so most org.springframework.xyz.jar are there.
But now the class org.springframework.util.assert is needed, which according to the documentation still exists in spring 3.0, but which I cannot find anywhere, also not in the "official" downloaded spring-zip-files.

What am I missing? Any hints are very appreciated! Thanks!

J.

Mixing versions of Spring jars.

If you are new to the Spring Framework, I recommend getting a book first that is just about the framework, Jumping to a Spring MVC/Webflow book would be after you learn the framework. So you are getting a little more advanced book before you understand the basics.

Good Luck

Thanks for your reply!
Sorry, if I got you wrong, but I don't see, what I would be mixing. I am using Spring 3.0 framework, which got installed with the Spring IDE in Eclipse, but also in the basic Spring releas zip-file the util-class is not contained. I guess maybe I need other parts of Spring, so I think, I am just looking for a list, where I can see, which part of Spring includes which classes. Basic things such as utils I'd expected to be contained in the basic Spring release, but obviously I am wrong.

Thanks, best whishes.

Spring is actually a bunch of jars. There is no longer one big monolithic jar file that contains "Core Spring", there are many and you can find that list at www.springframework.org

here
http://static.springsource.org/spring/docs/upgrade/spring3/html/ch02s06.html

and here
http://static.springsource.org/spring/docs/3.0.x/spring-framework-reference/html/overview.html

Did you install STS Spring ToolSuite to get the Spring plugins, or did you go through the update site in Eclipse instead?
