Hi all I was just going through the stuff once again and decided to do it the HeadFirst Way so chose the to implement the listener mechanism to an old book example and got this error ...

FAIL - Encountered exception java.lang.IllegalStateException: Container org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.[Catalina].[localhost].[/Beer-v1] has not been started

on adding the following lines to the web.xml file

this is the listener class

!!! got the error ... !!!

had to mark the listener class as public ...

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
