OCPJP 7 will not be released anytime soon. Only after Java 7 is released.

well Java7 will be released next month, don't you think it will be worth waiting than to be "out of date" by the end of the year?

Its up to you to wait. Once Java 7 is released they will announce the beta version of the exam, may be you can wait for that. Or if you are yet to prepare and you start preparing for SCJP 6 now and by the time you are completing the preparation and SCJP 7 gets released you can prepare for the additional topics and appear for SCJP 7. The core concepts should be the same. You might have a few additional APIs to learn (may be, I dont know for sure).

And I dont think SCJP 6 becomes out dated- and if you say that- then SCJP 7 might be outdated by the time java 8 is released.

I agree with MS. Some things you can consider :
1 - How many companies are going to change all their code to j7 "quickly" ? Scjp 6 requires us to study a little j5 and j4 code as they may still be in use.
2 - What about the books and resources ? You will be studying using j6 exam-oriented books and referring outside for the j7 features.

Now you decide.
hth.

Doubts that i have :
Is j7 significantly better than j6 or is it just j6 with some misc. features added ?
Is the difference so big that it will make the scjp 6 vastly different from scjp 7 ?

For this you can read the specifications part of the java 7 (this forum has a few discussions related to it).

I dont think. But SCJP6 and SCJP 8 (dont ask me when) will/(might) have a difference (Project Lambda- again this forum has a links about the specs in java 8).
