why abstract & strictfp combination allowed in class but not in method ???

Because the combination would be useless for a method.

An abstract class can still have constructors, initializers and non-abstract methods, to which the strictfp keyword will apply.

An abstract method can't be strictfp, because it doesn't have an implementation.
