I have a jsp page which contains list of items. These items depends upon the category selected e.g. household items, stationary etc.
My requirement is I need to show images on mouseover of the items name. Suppose I have stationary as selected category...
then list would contain pencil, eraser, ruler etc. So when user do the mouseover on these the image corresponding to these should display.
The problems which I am facing are:

1) The images are stored at some other location other then my application directory. So I need an I/O operation to fetch an image. Which would be time consuming and would be a performance hit.
Please suggest an alternative to avoid this or to optimize it to the best possible way.

2) Is it possible to refer an image stored in the folder at the server through url?
E.g suppose my image is stored in the folder Desktop/MyImages/1.jpg
Then can I refer this image like Please suggest.

1) Copy the images to the web app at build time.
2) No.
