What is and how to apply Filter Design Pattern

Hi Experts,

I'm currently working on a project an I'm required to implement the filter design pattern in it. Now, I do not know a thing about it. So, I googled. But I have found its application in a WEB based scenario only[J2EE]. What I'm interested is to know how actually this design patter can be implemented in CORE java.

If anyone has any suggestions or known weblinks which provide this matter well, please share it.

Thanks,
Pavan.

The Filter pattern is not in the classical book about design patterns.

I did find it here in the Java EE Blueprints from Sun.

It's essentially the same as the Interceptor pattern - the Wikipedia article even refers to the Java EE Filter interface.
