The JavaRanch Bunkhouse is a great place to start to find books on all subjects.
There you will find not only lists of books on various Java and web-related subjects, but expert reviews of these books.
Take a look!

head first Servlets and JSP by kathy sierra and bert bates. Basics well-explained, plenty of diagrams, tells common errors made by students, tone of author is informal and comforting.
