Hello Everyone,

I have just started preparing for SCEA exam recently and need some help regarding the syllabus and referance books. I have checked Oracle website for the syllabus and it looks like it covers all design patterns and other J2EE aspects. However in several blog I have noticed that people are talking about reading JSF however I didn't find anything regarding JSF inside Oracle syllabus. Can someone please give me a clear idea about the detail syllabus of this exam please?

Also I have checked the FAQ section about books and found there are several books metioned on design patterns, certification exams and EJB's. Can you please help me identifying what are the most popular and helpful books among them cause reading all these books will take atleast 2 years for me

If someone please help me ASAP it will be real help. Thanks a lot in Advance...

OCMJEA syllabus does have j2ee5 web tier technologies applicability which includes JSF. Also, while studying you don't need to remember syntaxes in each of the technologies. It took me around 3/4 months to prepare for SCEA Part 1 with daily 1 hour of study. That will again depend on your work experience as well.

Here is the post having the references of books/materials I used.
I found Jeanne's blog very helpful for the exam experience.

Hi brijesh,
I have also started preparing for the same last week, i bought the knidle version of SCEA by Mark cade and Humphery Sheil.

I found same useful in terms of getting a idea of actual syllabus, once one complete can look for same topics in detail and then move to mock exams.

cheers

Nilessh and Neelam,

Thanks for your response and suggestion provided. I have one more question regarding the whole certification. Is it mandatary to complete the SCEA part 1 and Part-2 and part -3 with some defined timeframe to get the SCEA certificate. Or I can complete part-1 in a year and then rest two part another year and get the finla certificate finally?

Nilessh-Will they provide any certificate after completing the part -1?

Certificate is provided only after successful completion of all the 3 parts.
For the time frame for part-1,2,3: I think you can do part 1 in a year time frame and rest later. See one of the recent post.

Bijesh and Neelam,
I hope you are also aware of the new rule by Oracle which states that after 30 July a course from Oracle is mandatory to take SCEA further.

Yes I have heard that....does anyone has any idea how much would be the cost of this course? And will it be a online course? Not sure why oracle has started all these mandatory courses...will it going to be helpful or its just for business ......

See the threads on the course and time limit extension. They contain everything that is known on the topic including speculation on the motives.
