Do we consider Escape chars in Exam or not?

Above code giving error:
" which must be escaped when used within the value"

It is running fine if i put:
<jsp:setProperty name="person1" property="firstName" value='<%= request.getParameter("userName") %>' />

My question is that:
Does scwcd exam consider this escape sequences. It is example from Head First.
