This week's book giveaway is in the OCAJP 8 forum. We're giving away four copies of OCA Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide and have Edward Finegan & Robert Liguori on-line! See this thread for details.
I want to write SCBCD 5.0. I have read Head First EJB on EJB 2.0. But I observed that EJB certification is split in to two exams EJB & JTA on 1.6.
Is SCBCD 5.0 still a useful and valid exam? If yes, please let me know a better book on EJB 3.0.
Is this exam going to be retired? Which one is preferred between SCBCD 5.0 and new exam (EJB & JTA) on 1.6.
I think you may be confused, the new exams with the same subjects (EJB and JPA) are:
EJB 3.1(1Z0-895), this one is about EJB's in general and have some hooks to other technologies / specifications like Intercerptors 1.1, Java Transaction API 1.1, Java Message Service 1.1, etc..
JPA 2.0(1Z0-898) this one is purely of the Java Persistence API, but I think it will get more complex from now on, EJB 3.2 are already being discussed and I can bet that the new Hibernate OGM will be the reference implementation of the newer versions of JPA.
The new version of EJB exam is more focused and tougher than previous ones. You have to spend considerable time preparing for this certification (EJB 3.1). However, it does worth it as the new exam will be much recognised int the IT market. Shall you decide to go for SCBCD 5 please make sure it is as soon as possible for, Oracle might retire it soon. My advice, in case you have enough free time, is to go for the new exam. First, check the new exam requirements and find a link for stuy resources in this forum.
