I've been struggling with my old Dell laptop from last 2-3 months in which I spent a lot of money about 4 years ago, now it is time to buy a new one. I thought instead of buying a new laptop again why not go for a tablet as you can get good processing power and memory in tablets now a days and it can be suitable for both work and home/entertainment usage. After doing my research I found that there are good number of options available in market while most of them are Android based tablet they seems to be good for entertainment but not for work, so I decided to go for Windows 7 based tablets, well they are on the higher price range, I've short listed following tablets

1. Acer Iconia W 500/501 (seems good value for money)
2. Asus Eee slate ep 121 ( powerful but prices are on the higher side)
3. MSI Winpad ( seems ok)
4. HP Slate (good one but with no docking station)

Need suggestion from you guys whether 10" tablets are good for work ? , I've never worked on any 10" size Netbooks/laptops, what are your experience on the tablets nowadays available in the market ?

Nobody knows when they are going to launch it and what will be the expected price, I assume it be really on the higher price tag.

I know you need Windows 7 based tablets but IMHO, iPad is only worthy tablet out there. Others are -sorry- nothing.
Check Android market place for tablet apps and you will know.

What is your work like?

I am using Netbook- 10', not very comfortable while viewing, but really portable and since I bought it I havent got back to the larger screen when I am at home. Suitable for mails, browsing, reading. Development- Ok, but a bit troubling.

As tablets are touch screen they will be quite a lot different from the way laptop/netbook is.

Its way, way too early to buy a Windows 7 based touch tablet. Unless you are buying a laptop that happens to have a touch screen. Windows 7 itself is too big and too slow for tablet experiences, if your are thinking about something competitive with Apple's iPad.

I'm not convinced that even the Android tablets are competitive, but they are well ahead of the Windows Phone 7 tablet offerings.

Or are you perhaps using tablet instead of laptop?

Why not look for a 12" or a 13" notebook? Like Pat mentioned above, it is way too early to buy a tablet for work. I guess you buy a notebook, use it for another 3 or 4 years and then the market will have as many tablet pc's that are real notebook / desktop replacement.

Finally I purchased Acer W500, it seems to be a good value for money( cheaper than IPhone in India). I dont know why windows based tablets are not so successfull in market however I am loving it, I have also downloaded a Android emulator to enjoy Android based apps on tablets, its giving me best of both worlds and even I am comfortably using it for work purpose. I think if there has been no IPad in the market I wouldn't have got this cheap tablet, thanks to IPad once again.
