Can you connect to a .mdb database with the following if you do not have microsoft access or ms office installed on your pc?

because if you cant.. then if you want to reslease your program you have to make sure the user has ms-Access installed.

isnt there like a database that comes with the jdk that you can use instead? or any other solution?

There are other lightweight databases that you can use for your application
for eg.Derby and HyperSQL
