To call a method from the value changed in the drop-down

Hi all,

I've been trying with the SelectOneMenu item to retrieve the value of the selected item and map it to the Value Change Event. But I read in one of the posts here that the ValueChangeListener should not be used to call a method. Is there any other way to call a Method?

My requirement is a drop-down with Objects like person,Adress.
If Person is selected, I should go to backing bean- Person.java and call the method written in that class for its corresponding functionality.

Thanks in advance
