I'm a beginner learning JAVA and looking to seek a job on JAVA. But prior to that I wish to do an SCJPtest.
I'm learning it myself with the help JAVA Ranch and Eclipse.
I'm following the Complete Reference by Herbert Schildt and just gona finish String Handling.
Can anybody please suggest me better ways to complete core java and any other books on Struts, Swing, JavaBeans or anything in JAVA that one would require to read to attempt the SCJP.
Ignore Struts, Swing, JavaBeans etc if you just want to get your SCJP. They aren't needed.
My #1 suggestion is the latest Bates / Sierra study guide. I used the 1.4 study guide for my SCJP 1.4 exam and the 5.0 study guide for my SCJP 6 exam. They really helped me through, even with all of the experience I already had.
I'm unawre of the levels and a bit confused between them(SCJP and OCP).
I want to know if there is a basic SCJP level (1 or 1.4) that would help find a job initially and then go for higher SCJP levels as and how I gain experience and is there any basic requirement of certain level of SCJP if I'm not a fresher to find a job. And is the entire test objective?
'Katthy Sierra' is a wonderful book to prepare for OCPJP (i referred this and complete reference - and they were very helpful ).
Moreover for the exam, you should go for version 1.6 or 1.5 atleast (OCPJP 1.5 or 1.6).
Yep. As has been suggested the SCJP Sierra / Bates study guide is fine for this exam and that's all I used apert from the Wizzlabs exam, which I found much harder than the real exam (which it is according to the general concensus on the interweb).
Natt, first visit the exam website and check out the exam topics and guidelines. Do not attempt Java 1.4 any longer. It is better to go for 1.6 as a lot of new features have been added to 1.6. Not all of it is in the new exam though, still helps have a more recent certification when what you are looking for is a job.
BTW, clearing a certification Vs. performing on the job are very different things. You may first want to practise well...

HELP ME
I want to add something important to all guidelines given above. It looks a little bit confusing.
Sierra/Bates book (study guide, I mean) is wonderful but not for somebody who wants to start Java.
Use the other book (head first) to learn the basics of the Java first, then start "study guide" book.
