Recursive Composite Component

I am trying to build a recursive composite component containing an input text box and a button. But I am getting StackOverFlowError. I need to know if this is possible by any means. I have tried putting rendered attribute and c:if but both of these seems to get evaluated at rendering time and not during build time.

Any pointers would be a real help.
