Hi,

I am working on a unix machine.I have installed apache-tomcat-7.0.16.
I am able to start tomcat server.It starts and says:

Using CATALINA_BASE: /home/jainpa/MySoftware/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9
Using CATALINA_HOME: /home/jainpa/MySoftware/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /home/jainpa/MySoftware/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9/temp
Using JRE_HOME: /home/jainpa/NehaDiwakar/jdk1.7.0

and I am confirming with process also that tomcat is started.

Now when i am trying to ping using below command:

$ ping localhost 8080

PING 8080 (0.0.31.144) 56(124) bytes of data.
^C
--- 8080 ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 1999ms

.Please help as i m not able to connect to localhost.

Neha,

Some kind of firewall is blocking the request on port 8080. Probably the easier solution is to change the http port number of tomcat.

I don't know much about unix. However related to your problem I was going through net, and I found the following link, probably this might help you.
