Java programmer work path

Hi there JavaRanch community!

I want to ask about what path i need to take to be an programmer ? I mean order of learning java to get job as a programmer. I know some basics (learned at studies) and i do some work in SWT. But nothing more :/ Please help me with this learning path (im a autodidact and i have no money for courses from eg Oracle) I want to be good part of this community

I had to look up autodidact.

One idea would be to ask friends if they need a bit of software to do something. Or put up an ad in a shop window saying you can write any piece of software, anything considered, no job too big or too small. Don't charge very much and tell them that you won't necessarily decide to do the work. If you find you can't do it just say so.

Otherwise, think of a tool that you would find really useful and write something. But don't get too hung up on rushing to get the job finished. Spend time on a good design. Think it through. When you have written some outline code really examine it, get it reviewed here. Be prepared to throw it all away and start again.

There is nothing to it really. You just have to stay motivated, continue improving your code, and by small steps you will find yourself, almost imperceptibly, improving.

Angus Comber thanks for a reply But could You tell me which subjects i need to learn. I need to start somewhere (and what next) becouse i thing i know too liite java.
