Yes, this is all feeling a bit surreal, but it's not the first time. I was only young during the early 80's riots, but they seemed to go on for ages. There have been others sporadically since then. The way this ignited in several places at the same time is unusual, though.

Going by the newspapers, this seems like an opportunistic organized looting. I liked the news where Londoners came out on the streets to help clean up the mess. I even saw a picture of a lady with a broom in her hand and a t-shirt which said "Looters are scum". Very nice to see such kind of people too.

How about when the police put a stop to the cleanup in Clapham Junction because of health and safety rules
