I want to learn memory management model in java and want to know if there is any book I can refer for same.

I have found out that there are different memory regions (new objects, old objects, tenured objects, perm). I want to understand what is the significance of each. How would you go about tuning the JVM for these.
Also there are multiple GC strategies available for JVM(concurrent etc) and want to learn the significance of each.

I would like to know if there is any book which covers all(or most) of above.

Is there anything in the JVM specification?

Unless you have a performance problem, you should not tune the garbage collector.
