Gaurav,
As already indicated the 4 day course in mandatory. SpringSource did run a 'grandfather' scheme for a short period which enabled you to sit the exam for just the exam booking fee (around $100-$150) if you could demonstrate sufficient Spring experience. I believe that they should have gone one step further and just opened the exam to
anyone who wants to pay the fee (like most other certifications). Sadly they have gone in the reverse direction and made it mandatory to spend 4 days of your time and around $2000 to sit the course first.
A new website,
SpringCertification.com, is currently surveying visitors on whether they wish this exam to be made open, or not (no-brainer really!).
If you do find yourself in the lucky situation where you have a generous boss who pays for you to sit the course, I would stress that the 4 day course alone, is not sufficient preparation for the exam. I do
not believe it is the main driver of the course is to prepare for the exam. So in any case you will need some further training / revision to prepare for the exam.
The same website mentioned above also give you
Sample questions,
syllabus areas to study, and links to
mock exams to help you get started to study.
You are on the right route thinking about getting this qualification as it is a good way to separate you from the crowd in an established, yet still growing, technology. Good luck!
