For those who live on the East Coast of the US:
Did you feel the earthquake today? Did people in your area overreact? In NYC some companies evacuated the building. These aren't buildings that are going to fall down. I don't see any reason to evacuate.

I also heard some buildings announced that there was an "unknown situation" rather than an earthquake at first. How comforting. I went on twitter and found out within 12 seconds there were rumors of an earthquake and within 60 seconds confirmed my CNN. The magnitude and epicenter were reported maybe a couple minutes later. What was unknown?!

My house was bouncing around like it was on a trampoline. It was freaky -- I never felt anything like it when I was in California. They evacuated a lot of buildings today, but I think it was the prudent thing to do, actually. I read this evening about parts of the National Cathedral that fell off, and some cracks in the Washington Monument.

But no damage here, and no injuries.

To me, it went on for many minutes, rather than the 45 seconds that was officially recorded. And more than a bit scary.

Good news is that there was no damage near me. There was damage. Check out these photos from the National Cathedral.

The photos of the big tower rotating several feet is amazing.

And now get ready for Irene. Hope it does do much damage.

As long as Irene keeps the serious wind and tides away, we could use the rain.

The wind speed ranges from 80 MPH to 135 MPH. Hope Sunday morning we will have roof on our building.

I was in the area a few weeks ago. My friend who lives there said it was a bit scary, it was the first time she experienced one.

I was in a car on my way back from lunch (Baltimore) so I didn't notice anything.

I went to NYC in 2007, and I think it was Brooklyn that saw its first tornado in over 100 years. I was in NYC last week, and first earthquake in over a century......Maybe I should stop bringing these kinds of things with me.

Please avoid Austin. Unless you will bring rain.

On the upside, you may have a promising future with the mass media by helping them out on slow news days...
