Getting started with FourSquare.

Hi All,
I'm trying to get started with api development in the foursquare app ,which I need for a project. .I dont need to develop a client side application . I'm just intending to use it to analyze the foursquare users in a particular area . However, being a newbie I don't know where to get started .I've looked at a lot of blogs , but cant find anything that I can understand. . It would be great if someone would point me to any resource in this regard Or suggest how to get started .
P.S -I'm not sure whether this is the right forum for the question. If not , please move it.

Thanks for the reply Maneesh! I did take a look at that . And also tried out the AuthenticationExample (given on the site), but despite including their jar file , I got a compiler error saying that the FourSquareApi was missingWhy could this be happening??. And so I thought, I would find it easier if there were a startup tutorial kind of thing (if available)
