Hi

I am Shravya
I am from India.
I took the OCPJP exam in November 2010 and i failed.
I could score only 50%.
This is the only exam that i've failed in till date.
The reason i believe that i couldn't clear is that i didn't give myself much preparation time.
Tried to cram it in 1 month which is insufficient.
Secondly and most importantly I didn't code much at all.
Thirdly i browsed through javaranch occasionally while i should've managed it efficiently and regularly.
And the biggest mistake that i did was to have taken mock exams without much preparation and created much anxiety and negativity which played at the back of my mind.
But there is a big lesson that i learned from the above committed mistakes and it really helped me while preparing for GRE and TOEFL.
I didn't commit the same mistake for these two exams as i was confident and scored reasonably good scores.
Thanks to my performance in the above mentioned exams i have renewed interest in taking up OCPJP again
I've been a java programmer for about 20 odd months and had to take a break in between to prep for the GRE and TOEFL.
I need this certification not only to improve my skills but also to reinstate my belief in programming.
I am planning to take the exam in APRIL 2011.
There are same changes that seem to have been made like i got to know that drag and drop questions have been omitted.
I need your inputs on how to go about this.
I have kathy sierra and bert bates book of SCJP 6 (2008 edition). Will this suffice or should i buy the new edition?
My story might sound a bit too long and boring but really need your inputs on this.
Help me out people.

Check out my post for tips: http://www.coderanch.com/t/538438/sr/certification/passed-SCJP-tips and you can check other posts by others for more tips.

If you fall and know how to get up, and walk is a sign of undefeated. You'll get stronger and better in the next round, what really important is believed in yourself and continue improving your skills and knowledge even after you have a certification.

Only knowledge is matter so, set your goal, focus, and get the job done. Other can do it so do you....

Good luck...hope it help.
