How can I handle a view timeout from an AJAX event?

I am just getting started with AJAX in my JSF application. Here's my question. Since adding an <ajax> tag underneath a component causes it to go through the jsf request life-cycle when its event is fired, how can I handle the situation where the session times out and the view can't be retrieved?
