starting out with this book . i can easily say java 5 is downloadable but acquiring api documentation is a pain in ass . i know there's a online viewer but what happens if the link goes under . also i've searched here to a related topic stating java 6 is no different . the reason why i want to learn java as a newbie cause i wanna code for uscript unreal engine 1 . am i in the right direction . thank you .

i don't wanna use java 7 with a outdated book causing confusion . just so you know i'm reading this book on my tablet .

You need to learn the basic concepts, object-orientation, syntax, etc. The changes between Java5 and Java7 will not affect that. The server for the API is usually reliable, but you can download the documentation as a zip file. Unfortunately I can't remember where you find it. Sorry.
Don't know where you get the uscript code from.

ok . thank you for the information . around the corner someone had told me about netbeans for cross compatibility ? should i get the bundle package .

At this stage you are better off with text editors (not MS Notepad) rather than IDEs like NetBeans. Otherwise you expend all your effort learning NetBeans.
