Hi,

I have a client requirement for populating a list of suggestions in a h:selectOneMenu. I also require the client to type freely in the list if he does not find what he is looking for. How can i do this? What JSF component supports this functionality ?

Kind Regards

None.

Core JSF is limited to what basic HTML can do, and there's no HTML basic control that can do auto-suggestion.

However, a number of the extension tagsets offer what you want. I have a apps that use JBoss RichFaces to do this, for example.

Hi Tim,

I did not mean auto-suggestion. I just need a component that has a drop down, but also allows users to type freely in it. Sort of a combo box from VB 6 days.

Kind Regards.

Same answer, but without the auto-suggestion part. There is no such thing as an HTML "combobox" control, so you'll have to use an extension tagset that implements one by assembling it from simpler components. Core JSF only supports the native HTML controls.
