Hi ,

How to integrate struts with ejb using JBoss Eclipse IDE 1.5, J2SE 1.5.

Please explain this step by step, bcoz i have tried other possibilities which simply didn't work out as i do not use eclipse . I use the following
1.JBoss Eclipse IDE 1.5
2.JBoss app server 4.0
3.J2SE 1.5

thanks and regards

Maybe it would help if you described what you have tried so far and why it did not work. If you understand EJBs and you have working EJBs and you understand Struts and you have working Struts code then it is just a matter of calling your EJB method from your action code. I suspect that you are looking more for JBoss configuration experience, which I do not have.

thanks Brent,

I have done a project in struts and now i want to implement the same with struts-ejb integration. I know how to create an ejb project and struts project. But i am not sure of how to integrate them. So i got a link
http://www.devx.com/Java/Article/21065/0/page/1 but this is for old version of IDE. i want these steps for my current JBoss Eclipse 1.5 version

I hope you understood . I am a beginner in implementing j2ee projects.

thanks and regards

If you're using JSE 1.5, I'd recommend using JPA and/or EJB 3. The API is much easier than EJB 2, and more powerful. I understand the JBOSS IDE has support for it as well.

When it comes to integrating with Struts, there's really nothing to be said. Struts has always assumed that you'd write your own model classes. Once you create the EJBs, the Struts Action then becomes the client for your EJBs.

Ya i am using JSE 1.5 only and EJB as middleware. thanks for the help.
If you could brief more about this it will be helpful for me. I know that struts action will be client input for ejb.The thing is i am not able to do package configuration in JBoss Eclipse IDE.

I'm not sure what you mean by "package configuration". Could you explain that?

I haven't used the JBOSS Eclipse plugin much, but it is after all just a plugin to Eclipse. The basic features of eclipse still work. If you're having trouble getting it to work the way you want, I'd suggest either spending some time with the documentation, or asking the question in one of the JBOSS forums.

Also, if you're experiencing problems with your JBOSS installation, the place to ask questions about that is in the JBOSS forum, not here. From a cursory look at your log, it appears that there is another process running on your system that is using port 8080, and that is preventing JBOSS from starting.

Hi,

your JBoss service not started because of

it means there is another process that using the port 8080. first you should stop that process.

hi ,
ya tomcat was running on 8080 so i changed the port no to 9090 and the server is running properly. But wanna know what and all should be there in .ear file. And to integrate struts with ejb do we need another framework (like ejbFacade or something i saw on the net)?

thanks for your reply

Because getting and using an EJB was fairly complicated in EJB 2.1 and earlier, it was recommended that you create a facade to hide some of that complexity. If you use EJB 3 with JPA, however, accessing the EJBs is quite a bit simpler. Even so, using a facade to separate the EJB layer from your Struts Action class still might be a good idea.

Anything you read about best practices for EJBs can be applied to a Struts EJB project. The fact that you're developing with Struts should have very little influence on how you design your EJBs.
