Hi folks. I am new to Tomcat and I am following a book to set it up. It's an oldish book so it is geared towards 4.0. I am using 5.5.

One of the steps that the book outlines is enabling the ROOT context see here.

It says to add this piece of XML to the server.xml file

Does anyone know if this will still work in Tomcat 5.5? Is the syntax still the same? Where exactly in my server.xml do I place this Context element?

Cheers, Sean.

I am following the book called Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages. The instructions in the book for setting up Tomcat are the same as the ones on the associated website located here. But it turns out these guys have created updated instructions for setting up Tomcat 5.5 which are located here.

So hopefully the new set of instructions will answer my question. Watch this space...

Ah, the answer was in the original instructions where it says "Skip this step if you are using the latest version of Tomcat 5". So I guess this step is not required in Tomcat 5.5 :-)
