Hi,
I have done various Java certs and I am now looking to do other certs. Not to get out of Java but to just improve my architecture and engineering skills.

I was checking out the CompTIA certs. Wikipedia do a good summary here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comptia

Has anyone done this and what's your opinion of them?

I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
