I'm reading K&B and although they recommend doing a lot of small programs, there aren't very many programming exercises. I see a lot of practice exam questions, but I'm not looking for any more multiple choice mock exam questions. I'm looking for programming exercises that I can read and then code up and run them under java.
There is a section of coding exercises in the K&B book of Practice Exams. It is maybe four pages. They are fairly abstract, for example, "write a program that opens a file and prints the first line on the console" -- that kind of thing.
Another way of looking at this is that each mock question can be the source of a lot of coding practice. As we write these mock questions we play around with each code sample. We try different variations, different methods, and so on...
