is there a rule to know if a Class of java 6 API have overwriting the equals method ?

sometime its the case (ex : String, Integer ...) sometime not (ex: Stringbuffer ...).

I'm not really sure what the question is, but yes you might get a tricky question which uses equals method on StringBuffer class. You don't need to know about it for all the classes though...
