equals() and hashcode()

I have read equals and hashcode from kathy sierra and i understood that hashcode and equals for searching purpose. hashcode gives the correct bucket to searcha and equals to find out the correct object in the bucket.
I need more number of examples to understand and the topic is still blurred to me.
