I'm wondering if it's reasonable to study for the Java SE 7 Programmer I exam (1Z1-803 Beta Exam) using the Sun Certified study guide for the SCJA exam. I'm specifically talking about this book. The book is about two years old. Would it be a mistake to make this my primary study aid for the exam?

The Java SE 7 Programmer I is quite different from the old SCJA. In fact, it is more like the OCPJP exam less certain topics. You might want to check out the objectives on Oracle Certification site.

E Cicchelli: I think any book would be fine as far bas basics are concerned but you should be aware of new changes introduced in Java 7. e.g. switch with Strings etc. All changes that were introduced in Java 7 check out this website. I will soon upload Java Notes on my blog website which might help you as well. One more thing go through APIs as much as you can. Exam is pretty thorough and covers pretty much every aspect. Good Luck !!!
