Launching Terminal.app

Hi Guys,

I do hope someone can help, it will be most appreciated. My issue is with opening Terminal Window on my Mac. I am using OS X and have found Terminal under the applications/Utilities section and see the icon called Terminal.app A single click on this causes the utilities section to disappear but no Terminal window opens. I don't even seem to get chance to double click the icon. In fact when a double click merely applies the second click onto what ever window lays below the utilities folder.

I would appreciate any assistance you guys can offer

What OS are you using?
Usually, on my Snow Leopard, I do not bother navigating to the folders. I just bring up the Spotlight (Command+Space), type Terminal and hit return.

So you are saying that selecting the Terminal app in the Finder window causes the Finer window to disappear? Does this happen if you click on any other app in the folder? Do all Finder windows go away when this happens? We need much more info.

Hmmm that's really weird that the entire Utilities window "disappears." I am new with "messing around" with Terminal and I just use spotlight, like Godbole mentioned: (cmd + space) and then type in Terminal and Spotlight should find it. If it doesn't find it, click 'Show All in Finder' and then try to manually search through your mac. Hope this works and good luck!

I suspect the window that's disappearing is the spring-loaded "Applications" folder in the dock; as soon as you click on an icon, it disappears. If Terminal.app launched, it would be fine, but for some reason it's not.

In that applications folder there's a "Utilities" folder (that should be where Terminal.app is located, anyway.) In the Utilities folder is "Console.app". Launch that, and then try launching Terminal.app again. If any error messages are being generated, they'll show up in Console.app. Let us know what you find out.
