I am new to Tomcat and have a question. I have a client application that connects to some server code running under tomcat (Solaris) that handles queries to a database through jdbc. I'm noticing a large number of http sessions on the tomcat web application manager despite only one current user using the client application for one query. The web.xml is set to expire sessions after one hour. It just doesnt make sense that a single request to the servlet for database results would result in 8 or 12 sessions, that expire an hour later. I've not been able to find a simple basic tutorial for someone not familar with tomcat in order to determine if this is an issue or not. Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the CodeRanch!

What is the logic in your code to handle sessions? Do you have any? Unless you have JSPs which allow sessions to be created servlets may not create sessions for you automatically.
