I have 5 years exp in java and done SCJP and SCWCD 3 years back. I want to take SCEA exam now. I have gone through the SCEA links and FAQ’s. I understood each topic has set of books to refer.
I’m really getting confused where to start(for the topics that are new to me). For example EJB, webservices, I never worked on these technologies. There are lot of books mentioned in faqs and links; for ex: for EJB; Mastering EJB / JEE EJB specification / EJB in Action. My question is do I need to study each book end to end? Like this there are some more topics which I’m quiet new but there are lot of books, not really sure which one to start with.
I’m thinking of preparing as per the order of objectives; but each objective there are many books suggested for same topic. Who ever took the exam studied and learned from all the books? In which case it takes very long time.
I request your suggestion on how to approach for the preparation.(how to plan for the exam). Where to start first? I’m totally disappointed.
Please help. I really appreciate your suggestions.
I took part 1 already and scored 85%.
The way I did is to pick one book per topic.
I choose each time the one with the best feedback I could find in Java ranch and amazon.
And yes I ended up reading a lot of books, more than 10.
Not only that I went through the JEE5 tutorial as well and you'll find yourself having to read articles on the internet
to complete obscure parts you dont get first time.
Note that reading/learning specifications is no use for the exam as it is more high level.
I hope that'll help you

Thanks for your reply Lobo, you got great score.
Which book you studied for Web services? I want to keep one book for each topic as a base and others for references(in case of more clarifications or doubts in specific topic).
1. For web services; can I study "SOA using Java Web services" as base and for references can I go through "Java EE 5 Tutorial. Part III Web Services".
2. For EJB ; "EJB 3 in Action" as base and go through the following in case any further clarifications "Pro EJB 3 Java Persistence API" / "Mastering EJB 3.0" / "Java EE 5 Tutorial. Part IV Enterprise Beans"
3. For JSF; Core JSF second edition and for reference J EE 5 tutorial.
