Many companies draw a very thin line between these 2 roles with many responsibilities overlapping between the two.
But, it's tough to become a technical architect after you become a project manager.
Is this only in India?
How to keep honing the architect skills and prove them through the resume ?

No. The more time you spend managing, the less time you spend on your technical skills. Over times, they become more distant. Then the technology changes and your skills become out of date.
In the short term, you can work on projects at home. Or when you first become a manager, code a little. This only works in the short term though. You have to be hands on to stay hands on.
