The most important thing to know about Struts versions is that there are two major forks in the path: Struts 1, and Struts 2. Both continue to get new releases and updates, but they're quite different from each other. If you're just starting with Struts and have no applications built on previous versions you may as well pick Struts 2 and continue along that path. If you or your company already have Struts applications built with earlier versions, you're probably better off sticking to the Struts 1 path unless you're willing to devote some time to migrating code. The latest release of Struts 1 is 1.3.8, and the latest Struts 2 release is 2.0.6. You can find more details about what features each has by looking at this link as well as the Struts home page.
