Hi all,
Happy New Year!
It has been a while since I popped over the 'Ranch and moseyed around; so long in fact, that last time I posted the Java EE exams were still called SCWCD! (Instead of that monstrously long new name!)
So looking towards 2012, we're busy revising the SCWCD Study Companion title to bring it in line with the latest Java EE 6 Oracle 1Z0-899 exam. The major new topics (which are covered briefly in the current SCWCD 5 Study Companion appendix) are annotations/dynamic deployment and asynchronous request handling, along with some maintenance changes in other areas. Plus a whole raft of errata from you all to sift though - makes for a fun(!) few days but thank you all for your feedback, corrections and suggestions, even if we haven't been able to reply to each one individually. They have all been noted and will be attended to.
So really my question is for those who either are studying for the exam now, or have recently passed it: is/was there anything particularly hard, something new and confusing, or anything you didn't expect to come up in the exam? Whilst we're shuffling and tweaking, it would be worthwhile (particularly if you're yet to sit the exam) to get your opinions and ideals for the new edition, and try to incorporate as much useful material as possible.
Hope your studying goes well for you this year ;)
Charles.

Great!! This is a really good news!!
And when it will be available on line?
I'm planning the OCE WCD 6 exam and I'm looking forward to start.
Meanwhile, do you think I can start reading the previous release (Sun Certified Web Component Developer Study Companion: With Java EE 6 Preview (Exams 310-083 and 310-084))?
Thanks a lot.

If you are already experienced in developing JSPs and Servlets , it might be better if you start with the specifications. Otherwise, using a book based on the latest version (such as Murach's) would be better. For certification,s it is best to purge all the outdated information from your brain as quickly as possible and if you keep using books based on older versions, it will be harder to do
But of course, most of the underlying concepts are same and if you are able to filter out the outdated stuff from new, then any book would be a good starting point.

Charles, this is good news.
Looking forward to it. I love your study companions and I was just looking for study options on the new (1Z0_899) JEE6 exam.
Any idea when is the expected release date? If it's few days I can wait for it, but if it will take time, then I will just search for other paths or downgrade to JEE5 exam.

Hi Charles,
Eagerly awaiting your 3rd edition for the 1Z0-899 - Oracle Certified Expert, Java EE 6 Web Component Developer exam.
Please can you let us know by when should the new edition be out ? Would it be available in next 1-2 months ?
Thanks in advance.

Hello everybody,
I did my OCJP last august and I'm heading for the ocpjwcd - I emailed the publisher about the C. E. Lyons book and they game me an estimate of end of this April. So hopefully we will get our hands on the latest revision within month.

looks to me that it's out 31 May 2012 (in uk according to amazon at least) still debating what to do next after OCPJP, may look at this ias it seems to be the only one with a dedicated study guide. Will be my first venture into EE, I've only ever worked with core / desktop java...
